Happy December!
Things have been busy. I’m writing on a daily basis now (primarily in longhand in my journal), and the fruits of that labor will emerge when the time is right. Fear not: you will be kept informed via this newsletter.
December has always been a favorite month of mine. I love Christmas very much: the décor, the rich reds and greens all around, the delicious food, the warm and cozy mood. I recently told my sister that I feel like I could curl up like a cat and take a nap anywhere in my mother’s exquisitely-decorated home. Of course, the best part of Christmas is in the name: it is the celebration of the arrival of Christ to the earth, the moment in history upon which all that precedes and follows it hinges.
There are so many parts of the Christmas story which deserve more attention from us than we generally give to them. Let’s look at just one, briefly: the Magi’s visit to the Christ Child (which is only found in the Gospel of Matthew). Who were these men? Where were they from? How did they discover who Christ was and where exactly he would be born?
